Bulka repeats as national champion

Junior Sarah Bulka became the first in National Collegiate Gymnastics Association history to repeat as national champion when she took All-Around honors at the 2006 championships hosted by SUNY Brockport.

Bulka scored 9.725 on the balance beam, 9.7 on the vault, 9.7 in the floor exercise and 9.35 on the uneven bars for a 38.475 total - the second highest in championship history.

She followed up her first day performance with an individual title on the vault and finishing in the top-six on the balance beam and uneven bars on the second day to earn three All-American honors.

Freshman Carrie Rock finished sixth in the balance beam with a combined 18.950 to also earn All-American status.

Churchville-Chili graduate Krystal Kaminski from Ithaca College finished in second place in the floor exercise - good for All-American.

The Golden Eagles finished the first day team competition in fourth place with 183.650 points behind the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse, who won their sixth consecutive title with 186.250 points. Ithaca was second and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh finished third.

The NCGA also awarded All-Academic Team honors to Brockport seniors Kristin Sheerin, Lindsay Marganthaler and Katie Barile. The recognition requires a minimum 3.0 grade point average and senior status.
