Schworm 4 RBI's leads Saints

Freshman Greg Schworm knocked two runs with a double in the third inning and two more in an eight-run fifth inning to lead Churchville-Chili to a 20-3 victory over Wheatland-Chili in their first baseball game of the 2006 season.

The Saints scored five runs in the second inning and took a 7-1 lead when Joe Vargo scored on a wild pitch in the third inning. Craig Alexander's two-out double scored Mike Sheffer in the fourth inning for an 8-1 lead.

The team then broke the game open in the fifth. Matt Diamond led off the inning with a single down the left field line and scored on Derek Szczupakowski's double to right. Alex McKeown then reached on an error before Josh Ladd's RBI double, Mike Korn was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Schworm singled to left to score two more runs. RBI singles by Alexander and Vargo made the score 14-2. Before the inning finished, two more runs scored on base loaded RBI walks to Szczupakowski and Mark Bertolani.

The Saints added four more unearned runs in the sixth inning to finish the scoring.

Senior Chris Lander started and pitched the first five innings allowing just two runs, one earned on two hits with four strikeouts to pick up the win.

Schworm finished the game 2 for 3 with the four RBI's. Diamond was 2-for-2. Six of the starters scored two runs in the game for the Saints.

Churchville-Chili is looking to win their first Section Five baseball title since taking two consecutive championships in 1973 and 1974.
