Brockport Middle School students recycle old sneakers

Students in the Nature Club at the A.D. Oliver Middle School are recycling old sneakers as part of the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe Challenge. The Nature Club along with a sixth grade team began this project which recycles old sneakers into new items such as carpet padding, indoor and outdoor track, clipboards and frisbees earlier this year. They are doing a spring clean up through April to collect sneakers around the community.

Kimie Romeo from the Monroe County Department of Environmental Services talked with Nature Club students about the important recycling program. Anyone in the community willing to clean out their closets of their old, worn out sneakers, may drop them off at the Middle School greeter's desk, 40 Allen Street, during the last week of April when school resumes. Any condition sneakers are welcome, however those with metal grommets cannot be recycled.
