Oak Orchard lighthouse project moving along

The committee in charge of refurbishing the Oak Orchard Lighthouse has hired Chatfield Engineers to engineer, design and assist with the construction of the replica lighthouse.

The lighthouse will be built on the county-leased state owned park located at the northeast tip of Oak Orchard Harbor in Point Breeze. The committee hopes the project will be complete in 2007 as they continue their fundraising efforts. The lighthouse, chartered under the New York State Education Department, will be used to promote and preserve the maritime history of the area through educational programming opportunities, representatives said.

Memberships to the Oak Orchard Lighthouse Museum are $10 for seniors/students to $500 for a lifetime membership. For information on the project go to www.oakorchardlighthouse.org.
