Spencerport Chamber of Commerce
welcomes Canal Corporation director

Carmella R. Mantello, director of the New York State Canal Corporation, was the guest speaker at the Spencerport Area Chamber of Commerce's April 19 meeting.

As an involved director, Mantello says she has been making personal visits to towns and villages in the historic New York State Canal System a priority. Spencerport Area Chamber of Commerce president Joyce Lobene welcomed Mantello for the luncheon meeting and a tour of the Village of Spencerport.

Spencerport's Erie Canal revitalization accomplishments and plans were shared, including expanded canal side docking facilities for boaters, biking and walking paths and sidewalks connecting parks, restaurants, boutique shopping - and a restored trolley depot. Enhanced by attractive lighting and landscaping, the Village of Spencerport and its surroundings are truly "Someplace Special," members noted.

Business owners, service organizations, public officials and residents from the Spencerport/ Ogden/Parma area heard Mantello address Future Canal Development topics and the impact and benefit to their community. A key component of New York's plan is the recent announcement that recreational tolls have been waived for the 2006 season.
