Hilton HS Drumline prepares to compete

It was warm in the Hilton High School gym but that didn't prevent the Hilton High School Percussion Drumline from performing not just one, but two, farewell performances of their six minute drill before an enthusiastic, cheering home crowd. It looked like a winning mix of staccato drumming, Mexican music, whirling dancers and precision stepping on the part of the percussionists, against a setting that provided a south-of-the border background. This was a dress rehearsal for the ensemble which recently won the 2006 WGI Regional Championship in Stratford, Connecticut, competing against teams from eight northeastern states. The group left on Wednesday to compete at the WGI World Percussion Championships in Dayton, Ohio. Director Tim Stodd said the group competed against 48 other teams from across America, with the semi-finals on April 20 and the finals on April 21. Photograph by Walter Horylev.
