Legal fees again an issue in Brockport
At the May 1 meeting, Village of Brockport officials were asked to vote "blindly" on an attorney to represent three officials embroiled in a lawsuit regarding the revocation of the police chief's contract. more

Oral history of Clarkson Schoolhouse compiled
In 1956, one of the last one-room schoolhouses, The Clarkson Schoolhouse, closed. Now, 50 years later, the narratives of the schoolhouse are being told by the students who attended it. The Clarkson Historical Society has teamed up with students from SUNY Brockport's cultural anthropology research methods class to help reconstruct the schoolhouse's history. more

Riga supervisor wraps up 100 days, looks to future
When she took the reins of the town under her control, Town of Riga Supervisor Pam Moore instituted a new practice - having a community member begin the town board meetings with a prayer or reflection, followed by the pledge to the flag. more

South Avenue residents keep green space
Residents of South Avenue in the Village of Brockport can rest easy for now as village officials rescinded the motion to declare a piece of property at 52 South Avenue as surplus. more

Sweden supervisor secures recycling center improvement
Through the efforts of Supervisor Nat O. Lester, III, the Town of Sweden has secured a commercial grade compactor for use at the recycling center located at 40 White Road. The compactor is expected to help control costs by reducing the number of trips the trash hauler has to make to Sweden's recycling center. more

On Saturday, April 29, the Town of Ogden Parks and Recreation Department held "Meet a Construction Worker and Police Officer" in conjunction with the town highway department and police department. more

NYSDOT to resurface Route 63 in Orleans County
NYSDOT is undertaking a preventative maintenance project to resurface State Route 63 within the village of Lyndonville as part of its summer paving program. Work began Monday, May 1 and will be completed by the end of the month. more

BOCES 2 students win at statewide competition
BOCES 2 students who took first place in the SkillsUSA competition held in Syracuse will go on to compete in the National competition in Kansas City, Missouri. more

Brockport students help children in Africa
Eighth graders at the A.D. Oliver Middle School designated the week of May 8 as "Spring Into Action" week. Students have set out to raise $3,000 to be sent to the Children's Hunger Relief Fund. more

Holley jumpers raise money for American Heart Association
The Annual Jump Rope for Heart, now in its 21st year, has raised nearly $200,000 for the American Heart Association's research and programs. more

Kendall senior takes first place in skills competition
Kendall senior Valarie Dickinson took first place in the Skills USA Nurses Assistant Competition in Syracuse. more

Kendall seventh grade team takes first place in math competition
For the first time, 25 Kendall seventh graders competed in the CMST (Computer, Math, Science and Technology) Competition at Rochester's East High School. more

Lower school tax rates for Churchville-Chili residents
The Churchville-Chili Board of Education adopted a proposed budget of $60,886,651 on April 11 for the 2006-2007 school year with an estimated tax rate increase less than one percent (.77 percent) for the towns of Chili, Ogden and Sweden based on the latest assessment figures. The town of Riga tax rate is estimated to decrease by 5.29 percent as a result of the town reassessing to full value. Final assessments will not be known until July 2006. more

Public hearing on proposed Spencerport budget scheduled
A public hearing is scheduled Tuesday, May 9 at 7 p.m. in Room 15/17 of the Administration Building, 71 Lyell Avenue about the proposed 2006-07 school budget and the proposed 2006 Capital Project. more

Judy Wright of Roberts Wesleyan College and Churchville native Lyndsay Wall were major awards winner at the 28th Annual WHAM Sportswomen of the Year Awards Luncheon on April 24. more

After dropping all three doubles matches, Brockport rebounded to take all four singles matches for a 4-3 win over Churchville-Chili in boy's tennis. more

Cole whiffs 15 for Eagles
Sophomore Jenny Cole registered 15 of 21 outs with strikeouts in pitching Kendall to a 1-0 girl's softball victory over Holley. more

Five MCC athletes earn SUNY Scholar Athlete Awards
Five Monroe Community College student-athletes were named State University of New York Scholar Athlete Award winners for their excellence in the classroom and on the playing fields. more

Holley students play soccer in Europe
Dominique Rupert, Ashley Colby, Jason Lutes and Jeremy Voigt of Holley High School were selected to join other Section V soccer players to be part of the 2006 European Soccer Tour - New York State Select. more
