Lower school tax rates for Churchville-Chili residents

The Churchville-Chili Board of Education adopted a proposed budget of $60,886,651 on April 11 for the 2006-2007 school year with an estimated tax rate increase less than one percent (.77 percent) for the towns of Chili, Ogden and Sweden based on the latest assessment figures. The town of Riga tax rate is estimated to decrease by 5.29 percent as a result of the town reassessing to full value. Final assessments will not be known until July 2006.

Assistant Superintendent for Business Services Frank Nardone had in recent articles estimated a tax rate increase of 2.51 percent. Due to additional state aid and tax assessors' input district officials were able to reduce the original proposal.

The Tuesday, May 9 budget hearing will offer residents additional information and a chance to meet candidates running for the three open seats on the Board of Education. This will take place in the Board Conference Room at the District Office at 7:00 p.m.
