Holley students play soccer in Europe

Dominique Rupert, Ashley Colby, Jason Lutes and Jeremy Voigt of Holley High School were selected to join other Section V soccer players to be part of the 2006 European Soccer Tour - New York State Select.

On April 13, the students joined 51 other Section V select players for a week-long trip to Holland and Germany. Two girls' teams and two boys' teams participated in the Largest Youth Soccer tournament in Maastricht, Holland - the Geusselt Cup. Twelve different countries gathered for the two-day tournament. Players not only engaged on the field in the sport of 'football', but met with players from other countries on the side-lines.

The group traveled to Germany touring Cologne and Düsseldorf during the day. Sightseeing included the Cologne Cathedral, stadium of FC Köln, Botanical Gardens, and the Königsallee. Evenings consisted of soccer matches against top-level German athletes. Their introduction to European soccer gave them an inside view of how the game is played, a better understanding of other customs and habits and the spirit of international sportsmanship.
