Spencerport Volunteer Ambulance, Inc. (SVA) began in the late 1960s with a small volunteer staff of one dispatcher, one driver and one medic per shift. SVA's service to the community was 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. more

BPD officers kept busy over weekend
Over the course of a four-day period, police officers in the Village of Brockport responded to a record 141 calls for service. The calls ranged from a stabbing, to an intoxicated individual being struck by a vehicle and the rape of a 15-year-old girl. more

Church rededicates bell, plans steeple replacement
The history of the Ogden Presbyterian Church of Ogden goes back to August 20, 1811, when a small group of settlers met to discuss forming a church in their new settlement (Parma at the time). The congregation met in homes and schools for the next few years. The church building was erected in 1824 and the church's 975-pound bell was installed in 1849 after the original bell was moved to the new Congregational Church in Spencerport. more

Ethanol plant to be developed in Orleans County
Governor George E. Pataki announced nearly $6 million in State funding to assist Western New York Energy (WNYE) in the development of the first state-of-the-art dry mill ethanol plant in New York. The $87.4 million facility is to be located on 144 acres in the Town of Shelby, Orleans County. more

Naoma Ennis carries a denim-look composition book with her wherever she goes. In it, she writes about the people, places and things she observes throughout the day. In time, she weaves her thoughts into poetry - poetry that just about anyone can relate to. more

Mill Seat Landfill to become energy producer
A facility that will burn landfill gas to produce power will be constructed at the Monroe County-owned Mill Seat Landfill in the Town of Riga. The plant will produce between 4.8 and 6.4 megawatts of energy derived from the garbage decomposition process. more

Parma residents mobilize to shutout soccer complex
Chris Foote has lived on Parma Center Road for nine years and never appreciated his neighbors as much as he does today. When word spread about a proposal to place a youth soccer complex in Parma, Foote was interested. When he found out the 121-acre, 25-field complex would border three sides of his property he became really interested. more

Riga dissolves recreation board
The Town of Riga board voted by a margin of three-to-two to dissolve its recreation board. Councilmen Robert Ottley and David Smith voted against the dissolution of the board; Supervisor Pamela Moore and Councilmen Ken Kuter and James Fodge cast the yes votes. more

Spencerport officials reveal revitalization plan
About 20 people gathered to hear the Village of Spencerport's plans for revitalizing its downtown and the southside waterfront redevelopment project plans. more

Sanford Road North to close for one month
Sanford Road North, in the Village of Churchville, will be closed to traffic through June 8. Work crews will remove and re-grade the road area connecting Sanford Road North to the I 490 west on-ramp. A new culvert will also be installed. Accessing the expressway from Route 36 will not be impacted. more

Students in the BOCES 2 Therapeutic Day Program raised more than $200 during a local radio station's Change Ranger Drive. more

Hilton schools launch "Operation Local Soldier"
On Friday, May 19, from 6 to 9 p.m., Hilton students from Village Elementary, Northwood Elementary and Quest Elementary schools will join together for a special event to honor the loved ones from the Hilton Central School District and their units that are serving abroad. more

13-run third leads Bees
Byron-Bergen erupted for 13 runs in the third inning, including a three-run home run by Bobby Bullard, in a 28-10 victory over visiting Kendall in boy's baseball. more

Rockow doubles in winner
Senior Bryon Rockow doubled past a diving center fielder in the seventh inning scoring Nate Parrino and Nick D'Ambroso to launch Brockport to a 6-5 come-from-behind victory over Rush-Henrietta in boy's varsity baseball. more

Summer camps offered at BOCES 2
BOCES 2 Career and Technical Education Center will offer three new summer camps as well as the popular Culinary Camp. The camps offered are Culinary Camp, Heavy Equipment Camp, Automotive Camp and Cartooning Camp. more

Summer Day Camp information offered
The Sweden/Clarkson Recreation Summer Day Camp will be held from June 26 to August 18. The camp will be broken up into eight separate weekly sessions and participants must register the Thursday prior to camp. more

Tucker Elliott pair lead Rangers
Seniors Rob Tucker and Scott Elliott overcame a second set defeat to win their match at first-doubles 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 to give Spencerport a 4-3 win over Batavia in boy's tennis. more

Senior Liz Zorn scored two runs and drove in another to lead Churchville-Chili to a 4-2 win over Gates-Chili in girl's softball. more
