Gates road work to commence

NYSDOT is undertaking a preventative maintenance project to pave Interstate 490 from Howard Rod to Route 204 and State Route 531 from Elmgrove Road to Interstate 490 in the town of Gates this summer. Work is slated to begin Tuesday, May 30 and be complete by November. Work will be performed during the daytime hours for approximately the first week, and then operations will switch to nighttime hours the week of June 5. The project will create a smoother riding surface and extend the life of the pavement.

In addition to the main travel lanes, the on and off ramps to Route 33 (Buffalo Road) and to and from 490 to 531 will also be resurfaced. The project also calls for pavement repairs, install replacement road signs and paint new pavement markings.

Motorists should expect daily and nighttime, multiple, lane and ramp closures throughout the construction season. Detours will be posted when there is a ramp closure. A minimum of one lane will remain accessible on the main lines at all times. Restrictions have been imposed to avoid lane closures during morning and afternoon rush hours. Due to the high traffic volumes during the day, work will also be done during the overnight hours.
