Michael Flanagan accepts his "Rising Star" plaque from Anthony Preziosi.

Spencerport resident honored by K of C state council

During the 111th annual meeting of the New York State Council Knights of Columbus in Ellenville, NY, State Deputy Anthony Preziosi presented the first-ever "Rising Star Award" to Michael P. Flanagan of Spencerport. The award was sub-titled, "The Essence of Leadership."

The plaque was engraved with the following inscription: "A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the quality of his actions and the integrity of his intent. In the end leaders are much like eagles … they don't flock, you find them one at a time."

Flanagan has been a member of Pope John XXIII Council No. 7707, Knight of Columbus since May 1983 and has served in numerous leadership positions.

He is married to Linda (Semrau) of Hilton and the couple have three children, Jennifer (Jeremy) Skidmore of Hilton, Christopher (Megan) of Chicago, Illinois and Colleen (Wes), also of Hilton.
