Arrival of doctor provides new flexibility to Lakeside’s joint replacement patients

Two patients recently underwent knee replacement surgery and benefited from the full continuum of care available at Lakeside Memorial Hospital. Probably unwittingly, they blazed a trail for many others to follow.

In March, Dr. Jonathan M. Gross, orthopaedic surgeon specializing in lower extremity joint replacement, joined the Lakeside team. This addition now affords nearby residents the opportunity to get treatment related to joint replacement taken care of at their local community hospital.

Lakeside offers a three-team approach for joint replacement patients: physical therapy, occupational therapy and nursing. Terry Klinetob, director of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, said Lakeside’s offerings now provide patients with the key ingredients to promote a full recovery.

“This is really what a patient should look for,” Klinetob said. “To do this problem well, you have to offer all units of care.” After surgery, Lakeside patients will be provided short-term rehab opportunities at the Lakeside Beikirch Care Center while still in the hospital, or outpatient rehabilitation through the hospital’s Comprehensive Rehab Center.
