Newsmakers for the week of
June 4, 2006


Samantha Elizabeth Gabel, a 2002 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School, received a bachelor of science degree from Daemen College on May 20. She was awarded the 2006 President Award by Dr. Martin J. Anisman at graduation ceremonies.

She is the daughter of Donald and Dora Gabel of Ogden and the niece of Mauro and Maria Ciardi of Spencerport.


Among local residents named to the Alfred State College dean's list for the spring 2006 semester are: Timothy Boerschlein, Churchville; Cody Rath, Hamlin; Jamie Bucci, Hilton; Lewis Snyer, Hilton; Zachary Deruyter, Spencerport; Robert Kelley, Spencerport.

Students from both the Alfred campus and the School of Applied Technology campus in Wellsville are selected for the dean's list if they maintain a 3.50 grade point average (GPA) out of a possible 4.0.


Trisha McCormick of Hilton has graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree in computer science. McCormick is the daughter of Cathleen and William McCormick of Hilton and a 2001 graduate of Hilton Central High School.


Christian R. Szabo of Brockport has graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a master's degree in health systems administration/finance.

Szabo's parents are Marjorie Yaniro of Caledonia and Rolf Szabo of Rochester. Szabo is a 1993 graduate of Caledonia-Mumford Central High School.


William H. Hallowell III, son of William and Laura Hallowell of Spencerport, graduated from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in New York City magna cum laude. He received his bachelor of arts in communications and journalism and has a minor in writing. He is a Rhodes Scholarship nominee and has received the Clark Fellowship award scholarship for his master's degree.


Christine J. Walker of Churchville graduated with honors from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She recieved a bachelor of arts degree from RIT's School of Design. She is the daughter of Peggy and Steve Walker of Churchville and a 2002 graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School.


Patrick S. Mosher of Brockport has achieved the president's list at SUNY College at Brockport for spring of 2006. He is a 2005 graduate of Brockport High School and the son of Michael and Marlene Mosher. He was awarded the Merit Scholarship Awrd from N.Y. State for 2005-2006 and for 2006-2007.


Ashley L. Anzalone, a resident of Spencerport, received a bachelor of fine arts cum laude in art and design at Alfred University during commencement exercises May 13 at McLane Center on the AU Campus.

Anzalone is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Anzalone of Spencerport. She is a graduate of Brockport High School.


Air Force Airman Christopher J. Fisher has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

He is the son of Jeffrey and Barbara Fisher of Talamora Trail, Brockport and a 2005 graduate of Brockport High School.
