FUSE presents awards to Kendall Students

The FUSE (Firefighters United for Safety Education) Award Grand Prize winner in Kendall was Marisa Hanlon. The award, given to the winner of the coloring contest, was presented on May 24 in front of all the students at the Kendall Elementary School. The FUSE Organization is a collaboration of local fire departments who pool resources to get into schools more often to teach fire safety education; Charlie Hungerford is the coordinator. In addition to the plaque Marisa won a ride on a fire truck from her home to school.

Other FUSE winners, all third grade students, Tyler Cochran, Tania Arellano, Brooke Titus, Abby Horst, Grand Award winner Marisa Hanlon (standing above the line of students), Cameron Heller, Ryan Clay, Cassidy Borkholder and D’Andre Nanden. The firefighters: Charlie Hungerford (Walker FD), Shelly Roenger (Walker FD), Chuck Mosele (Walker FD), Brad Youngjohn (Kendall FD) and Scott Smith (Brockport FD). During the EDITH program (Exit Drills in the Home) run in the third grades in Kendall and Brockport, coloring books were distributed with the idea that pictures relating to the EDITH program would be colored by students. The contest was judged by senior citizens from the two localities. Three prizes were awarded to each classroom. All winners received a ribbon and the families got a ticket to a Rochester Red Wing game. Frontier Telephone donated $5,000 towards the materials and the game tickets.
