'New York Detour'
author visits

Host/Travel Writer Bruce Northam, pictured with Holley fourth graders Lauren Jewell (front) and Shannon Kelly, began his 23-day, 2,000 mile journey to discover the "real" New York state in Western New York. Beginning in the Niagara Region, Northam then traveled to Ridge Road Station in Holley, a 30,000 square foot Christmas and train store where Holley students, eccentric owner Peter Mills, and Ken McPherson, a Santa-look-a-like, joined in the fun. Northam spoke to fourth graders about his travels to over 100 countries and all 50 states, and about being a writer. Students had an opportunity to explore the store and see the impressive model train display. For information about the tour, visit www.iloveny.com/detour.
