Rotary receives
service award

Through the recycling efforts of local residents and the Spencerport Rotary, the club received the First-Place Environmental Service Award at the Rotary International Regional Conference in Pennsylvania. This recycling project is intended to keep discarded athletic sneakers out of landfills. The 'rewearable' sneakers are given to those in need. Hundreds of pairs were donated last year to 'Katrina' victims and to the local Salvation Army. The 'unwearable' ones are to be ground up, ultimately for reprocessing for athletic components. This 'sneaker recycling' is an on-going Spencerport Rotary Club activity. There are several collection points in Spencerport with the main collection box at the Ogden Farmers' Library. Shown above are Spencerport Rotarians Milt Danko, chair of the Sneaker Recycling project, and President Dick DuBois with the award citation. Anyone interested in Rotary community service, can call 352-4367 for information.
