Emily McLean, daughter of David and Mary Lou McLean has been named to the spring 2006 dean's list at St. John Fisher College in Rochester. McLean, a senior, is an early childhood and special education major.

To be eligible for the dean's list at St. John Fisher College, a student must have attained at least a 3.5 grade-point average for the semester.


Janine M. Blasioli of Spencerport earned her bachelor of science degree in international business from The University of Scranton. Commencement ceremonies were held May 28.


Nicole Waldow, from the Spencerport Central School District, is the recipient of the 2006 Spencerport Area Chamber of Commerce scholarship. Annually the Chamber awards its scholarship to a graduating high school senior who has chosen a career in business and offers a $1,000 scholarship. Waldow intends to enroll at Clarkson University. Her parents are Jeannine and Mark Waldow.


Meredith Keymel, daughter of John and Karen Keymel of Greece, has been named to the president's list at SUNY Cortland for the spring 2006 semester.


Boston University awarded an academic degree to Spencerport resident Leanne E. McAndrews, who received a bachelor of arts degree in international relations.


Benjamin R. Jaekle of Brockport has achieved the dean's list with honors with a GPA of 3.70-3.99 at SUNY College at Brockport for spring of 2006. He is a 2003 graduate of Brockport High School and the son of Mark and Megan Jaekle.


Residents from the area were among students at SUNY Canton recognized for outstanding academic performance during the spring 2006 semester. To receive president's list honors, full-time students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.75 on a 4.0 scale. For dean's list honors, students must receive a grade point average (GPA) of 3.25.

Student(s) honored from Brockport are as follows: Megan Krahe, president's list of Brockport High School; Robin Westcott, president's list and Braddley Fox, dean's list of Hilton Central High School.


Brendan Clifford, son of Tim and Pat Clifford of Spencerport, has been named to the spring 2006 dean's list at St. John Fisher College in Rochester. Clifford, a freshman, is a physics/math major.


Brockport resident Seth Musselman was named to the dean's list for the spring 2006 semester at SUNY Cortland. The history major is a 2005 graduate of Aquinas Institute.

He is the son of Scott and Mary Pat Musselman.


Mary Thomas has been promoted to assistant director of the Elementary Science Program (ESP) at Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES. Thomas works with the NY State Education Department in editing, field-testing and standard setting for the Elementary Level Science test. In addition to these responsibilities she will supervise science kit processors, meet with production team leaders, and be responsible for the day-to-day production of science kits. Thomas has been with Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES for 13 years as a science resource teacher.


Mary Ellen Spennacchio-Wagner has been appointed to director of the Center for Workforce Development (CWD) at Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES. Her responsibilities include supervising all adult learning programs which include literacy, career and technical education job training programs, community continuing education courses and customized training. She will also serve as a liaison to the various workforce and community development organizations. During her 18 years with Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES, she has served as the Supervisor in Adult Education and as an Adult Education Specialist.


Amy Fitzsimmons of Churchville, a 2001 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School, has achieved the dean's list for the spring semester at St. John Fisher College where she is an education major.

She is the daughter of Thomas and Sharon Fitzsimmons of Churchville.


Niagara University held its commencement ceremonies on May 20 and 21. Students earning degrees from this area are: Cody Habgood, Bridget Marie Herrmann and Daniel Marciniak, all of Brockport; Rebecca Schicker and James E. Nealon, both of Hamlin; Carli M. Harris, Tracy A. McGarrity and Katie L. Oyer all of Hilton; Angela Rose Girvin of Holley; Carrie M. Hoestermann and Julie L. Szymanowicz all of Spencerport.


Jessica Berg of Albion has achieved the dean's list at SUNY College at Brockport for spring of 2006. She is a 2005 graduate of Holley High School and is the daughter of George and Elaine Berg. Her GPA was 3.44.


Heather Smith, daughter of Deb and Stan Smith of Churchville, and a graduate of Churchville-Chili High School, has been named to the dean's list for the 2006 spring quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A multidisciplinary student in RIT's College of Applied Science and Technology, she is studying computer graphics and business management with a minor in sociology/anthropology.


Elyse Benamati was named to the dean's list at Sate University of New York College at Cortland. Her parents are Brian and Gayle Benamati of Spencerport.

She graduated from Spencerport High School in 2005.


John Marron of Rochester has been named to the dean's list for spring at Rochester Institute of Technology. A first year student in RIT's School of Design, Marron is studying graphic design. He is the son of Donald and Holly Marron of Hilton. He is a 2004 graduate of Hilton High School.


Lakeside Foundation announced the election of Walt Lapinski to its board of directors. Lapinski brings more than 40 years of sales and sales management experience to the board. He is a resident of Hamlin where he is involved in the Hamlin Lions Club and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Lapinski's efforts as a volunteer for the "Building for the Next Generation" capital campaign helped Lakeside exceed its goals.


Laura Z. Mann of Brockport has achieved the dean's list with honors with a GPA of 3.70-3.99 at SUNY College at Brockport for spring of 2006. She is the daughter of Jose M. Zapata Gamarra, wife of Jeffrey Mann and daughter-in-law of George and Carol Mann.


PFC Christopher D. Wallace is currently serving in the U.S. Army and stationed at Fort Drum, New York with the 10th Mountain Division.

He is the son of Patricia Zarpentine-Wallace, and a brother of Patrick and Brian Wallace. His grandparents are Alvin and Doris Zarpentine of Hilton and Ed and Donna Zarpentine are his uncle and aunt.

Wallace will be leaving for Iraq with the 2nd Battalion in August 2006. He and his wife, Sara, and children Julia and Jacob, will be visiting his grandparents in July before his departure to Iraq.


Adam J. Machamer has been awarded an Air Force ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) college scholarship. The cadet was selected on the basis of comprehensive tests scores, high school scholastic achievement, school officials' evaluations, extra-curricular activities, and community involvement.

He is the son of Brett A. and Patti A. Machamer of Hilton. Machamer is a 2006 graduate of Hilton High School.


Christopher M. Walker has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program.

Walker, a 2006 graduate of James Kenan High School, Warsaw, North Carolina, will report to Fort Benning, Columbus, Georgia for active duty on August 3. He is the son of Michael T. Walker of Holley and Mary J. Huntington of Spring Creek, North Carolina.
