Hamlin family displaced by fire

On Sunday, July 9 at 2 p.m., a child who was riding their bike on Curtisdale Lane in Hamlin noticed flames in the window of a single-family home. The Hamlin Fire Department was notified and when they arrived on scene smoke and flames were shooting out of the upstairs window of the home at 21 Curtisdale Lane. The firefighters aggressively attacked the fire using a mixture of water and foam, which quickly snuffed the fire and minimized the water damage. No one was home at the time of the fire and no one was hurt bringing it under control.

The fire heavily damaged the bedroom where it originated and the smoke and heat spread down the hallway into the bathroom, kitchen, dining room and living room. Two bedrooms closest to the fire's origin were spared because the doors were closed.

Assistant Chief Allen Smith, who was in command of the scene, said, "Rapid discovery of the fire by a neighbor coupled with an aggressive attack by the Hamlin Fire Department helped minimize damage to the residence."

The Hamlin Fire Department was aided by the Morton and Walker Fire Departments who covered any calls while Hamlin was occupied at the fire.
