Anniversary worship service planned

On July 30, at 10 a.m., Pastor Alan Dailey will lead the worship service at the Thomson's Tavern in the Genesee Country Village and Museum to celebrate the 200th anniversary what is now known as The First Congregational Church of Riga, UCC. The service is open to the public.

It is believed, through history, that Thomson's Tavern could have been the site of the Sabbath Sunday Service. Thomson's Tavern was built in 1807 by Joseph Thomson and later purchased by Warren Adams in 1845. The Adams family held the property since they acquired it. Also attending the worship service will be a descendent of Warren Adams. She lived in the Tavern while growing up and will bring her mother. They will have history to share.

There will be a pot luck lunch following the service. If attending, you may need a chair for the service. Bring your own drink and place setting for the pot luck. Anyone wishing to return to the museum may purchase a discount ticket through the Bi-Centennial Committee. Call 585-293-2070 for information or reservations.

The church is located at 7057 Chili Riga Center Road, Churchville.
