Sweden Community Foundation
launches 'Sweden Business Challenge'

The Sweden Community Foundation will launch the Sweden Business Challenge on Wednesday, August 16 from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. at the Sweden/Clarkson Community Center, 4927 Lake Road, in Brockport.

During the kick-off event, Thomas Ferris, managing partner of Rochester-area law firm Connors and Ferris, L.L.P., will make a check presentation, which will officially launch the challenge. "I am very proud to be a part of the event," says Ferris. "Being involved with youth soccer and youth hockey in the area, I have seen how important these recreational programs are for everyone in this community."

The challenge will be an on-going campaign aimed at businesses around the area to help support the Foundation's mission. Established as a not-for-profit corporation in 2005, the Sweden Community Foundation's mission is to fund community recreational, wellness and educational programs and to provide services in the area including western Monroe County, eastern Orleans and Genesee counties.

"We can not rely exclusively on public funding to achieve our objectives," says Jack Milner, president of the Sweden Community Foundation. "We have personally invited business and political leaders from all over the area to take part in this challenge."

Milner says that current programs and facilities need to be maintained, expanded, and improved. In addition, he adds, new programs and facilities need to be created to meet the needs of the community's youth, adult, and senior populations, as well as those in the community with disabilities.
