Sara Crumb of Hilton graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University, New Jersey, where she earned a master's degree in psychology.


SUNY Potsdam presented the Women's Studies Scholar Award and the Amelia Morey Essay Award to Christina Kesselring of Spencerport. The Women's Studies Scholar Award, initiated in 1994 to celebrate women's studies student excellence, is presented to those junior women's studies majors and minors who most clearly exhibit academic excellence both in women's studies courses and in overall academic pursuits.


Steven Crowe attended the Deloitte & Touche USA's National Leadership Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona July 11 to 14. The conference is for students who have demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and a keen interest in business/professional services. Students participated in workshops and activities geared toward leadership, team-building, interpersonal and negotiation skills and potential of each participant. Crowe attends Notre Dame University, majors in business and accounting and will be a junior in the fall. He is a member of the Notre Dame Men's Diving Team. He graduated from Brockport High School in 2004.


Paul Smith's College named Christine L. Cosman of Brockport to the dean's list of the spring 2006 semester. Cosman is studying hotel, resort and tourism management. Dean's list status is granted to students who have completed the semester with a GPA of at least 3.3. Cosman has also been named an Adirondack Scholar, a student who has earned a cumulative GPA of at least 3.8.


SUNY Oswego has awarded $2,000 merit scholarships to two local residents: Katlyn A. Gorman of Hilton and Andrew M. Morgan of Spencerport.


The following area students enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University were named to the dean's list for the spring 2006 semester. To qualify for the dean's list, students must achieve at least a 3.4 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) during the semester.

Albion: Natalie Bokman, a sophomore majoring in international relations;

Brockport: Bianca D'Angelo, a junior majoring in international relations and political science and David Robinson, a senior majoring in economics and political science;

Hamlin: Elizabeth Reitter, a senior majoring in political science and Tempest Wolfe, a junior majoring in psychology;

Hilton: Erin Speer, a senior majoring in mathematics;

Rochester: Adam Glogowski, a senior majoring in political science;

Spencerport: Mallory Blackburn, a junior majoring in philosophy; Elizabeth Oberlin, a sophomore majoring in psychology and Andrew Powers, a sophomore majoring in chemistry.


Lakeside Health System announced the election of Nancy Plews to its Board of Directors. Plews works at Eastman Kodak Company as quality director with the Graphic Communications Group, she has worked at Kodak since 1981. Plews brings more than 25 years of communication management experience to the board.


Rachel Buaye of Spencerport, daughter of Sean and Dawn Buaye, completed Level 3 of the Future Astronaut Training Program at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson. Buaye will be freshman in the fall. In Houston, they toured Building 9, which houses NASA's space shuttle trainers and the International Space Station mock-up. The group's behind-the-scenes visit also included a tour of both the former and current Mission Control Centers, the Architecture Habitation and Integration Project, United Space Alliance's Crew Equipment Facility and the Neutral Buoyancy Lab's 6.2 million-gallon pool where astronauts train for work in microgravity.

Before traveling to Houston, they trained on simulators related to both manned and unmanned spaceflight. They trained in the Centrifuge, which simulates the g-forces of a space shuttle launch, and flew in both an Advanced Flight Simulator, housed in an actual F-101 cockpit, and in an F-16 trainer acquired from the Air Force. The campers' training culminated in an advanced space shuttle mission aboard the Cosmosphere's state-of-the-art space shuttle simulator, the Falcon III.


Christopher Page of Rochester, a graduating senior at Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts, was recognized with the Bert Rice Memorial Prize. This prize is presented to the most promising graduating senior in industrial and interaction design.


Elisabeth Curran of Hilton, a senior majoring in environmental design interiors in Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts, was nominated for the 2006 Student Employee of the Year Award at Syracuse University.


The following students have been promoted in the art of karate by Kyoshi Mark A. Caparco of Caparco Martial Arts: Richard McKeown and Thomas LaVigne, both ranked to third degree. Ranks in Japanese Swordsmanship were given to: Jake Duell and Timothy Page, both ranked to second degree and Eric Washburn, ranked to first degree.


Renee Warren was named to the dean's list for the spring 2006 semester at SUNY Fredonia where she is majoring in childhood education. She is a 2005 graduate of Brockport High School and is the daughter of Steve and Val Warren.


Student pianists from the studio of Barbara Woods in Spencerport performed in the New York Federation of Music Clubs Festival in February. All students earned superior ratings and received national honor certificates. They are: Alison MacKenzie, Nathan Wolski, Nathaniel Heale, Kristen McCannon, Steven Burek, Abby Blakely, Drew Callan, Katherine Wimer, Marisa Benson, Caitlyn Keery, Shauna Brongo, Nicole Moran, Alicia Joerger, Jaime Clare, Jenna Callan, Andrew Liu, Tyler Davis, Raymond Manioci, David D'Angelo, Olivia D'Angelo, Jared Meagher, Michael Yodice, Marisa Benson, Shelby Lee, Ryan Davis, Julia Fuino, Allison D'Angelo, Sophia Avery, Kaitlin Yaeger, Michael Yaeger, Brooke Callan, Tara Mou, Casey Hungerford and Diana Keery.

Gold Cup trophies for earning three years of Superior ratings were awarded to Marisa Benson, Allison D'Angelo, Ryan Davis, Shelby Lee, Michael Yodice and Julia Fuino. Second Gold Cups for earning six years of Superior ratings went to Alison MacKenzie, Katherine Wimer, Nathan Wolski. A Third Gold Cup for earning nine years of Superior ratings was awarded to Nathaniel Heale. A Silver Cup at the adult entry was awarded to Diana Keery.


In 1996 Flower City Printing Inc. originated a program to remember the late George Scheible, who during his lifetime, originated at least three printing firms, improved color printing, and became a civic leader in Monroe County. To keep Mr. Scheible's memory afloat in the Rochester area, the Flower City firm arranged four programs with four high schools and Monroe Community College that would use their faculties to select who the outstanding printing scholars were in their various schools.

Among the recipients were Alex Fess, an "A" student, a senior and the soccer captain from Hilton High School and Margaret Aubel of WE-MO-CO, based in Spencerport, who worked on commercial art and advertising design. She was treasurer of the school's Art Club and active in other extra curricular activities. The recipients received rewards from Flower City Printing including checks for $250 per student, plaques and invitations to work summer programs at Flower City Printing.


Andrew M. Kirchhoff has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U. S. Army after successfully completing the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) program and graduating with a bachelor's degree from the University of New York at Brockport.

He is the son of Keith and Mona Kirchhoff of Brockport. Kirchhoff is a 2001 graduate of Brockport High School.


Randy Mathews, son of Janie and Jeff Mathews of Churchville, and a graduate of Churchville-Chili High School, completed basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, South Carolina.


Army Pvt. Owen R. Camp has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

He is the son of Brian and Sheryl Camp of Hamlin. Camp is a 2005 graduate of Irondequoit High School.
