On May 6, Katlyn C. Marple graduated summa cum laude from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts with a bachelor of arts degree in history and human services. Prior to graduation, she was on the dean's list every semester and received the Sears B. Condit award for academic excellence. She is a 2002 graduate of Spencerport High School and the daughter of Craig and Kay Marple.


Jenna Dandrea of Spencerport received the Psychology Achievement Award at SUNY Potsdam.

The Psychology Achievement Award is given annually by the Department of Psychology faculty to the most outstanding senior psychology majors. Recipients are recognized for their achievement both in and out of the classroom, covering such activities as research and scholarship, psychology-related volunteer or other out-of-class activities and demonstrated leadership in the field of psychology.


Jamie Elizabeth Olsen, daughter of Al and Donna Olsen of Lynnwood Avenue, Brockport, graduated with honors from the University of Buffalo with a degree in Industrial Engineering on May 13, 2006. Olsen was a 2002 graduate of Brockport High School and attended UB on a four year scholarship.

Olsen is a member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers and was president of the Professional Engineering National Fraternity, Theta Tau, UB chapter. In May she was inducted into Omega Rho; International Operations Research Society.

Recently completing rigorous training and requirements, she has been awarded six Sigma Certification at the black belt level which is a disciplined, data-driven approach and methodology for eliminating defects from manufacturing to transactional and from product to service.


Kara Lynn Elliott, daughter of Randy and Marilyn Elliott of Kendall, graduated May 21 from the State University of Potsdam. She was named to the presidential scholars list her senior year and graduated cum laude, majoring in psychology with a minor in art history. She also graduated with honors in the Arabic language.

She will now be attending Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, continuing her education towards a master's degree in psychology.


Air Force Airman Jason J. Ophardt has arrived for duty at Osan Air Base, South Korea.

Ophardt, a security forces apprentice, is assigned to the 51st Fighter Wing. He has four years of military service. He is the son of David Ophardt of Donlin Drive, Rochester, and grandson of Melinda Ophardt of Kendall.

The airman is a 2005 graduate of Spencerport High School.


Army Pvt. Kevin J. Hockeborn has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina.

He is the son of Thomas Hockeborn of Farmstead Court, Churchville, and Bonnie Hockeborn of Sequoia Drive, Rochester.
