Bill allows Chili to sell land, use funds to improve or add park land
Senator Jim Alesi, 55th District and Assemblymember Susan John (D-Rochester/Chili/Wheatland/Rush/Riga) announced that Governor George E. Pataki will sign his bill allowing the Town of Chili to sell land at 49 Sequoia Drive and use the funds to improve existing parks or acquire new park land. The piece of land, which has been vacant and undeveloped since the 1980s, will be sold to a lifelong Chili resident who plans to build a single family home on the property. more

Birds Eye restructuring; Brockport, Bergen and Oakfield sites affected
On Tuesday, July 25, Birds Eye Foods Inc. announced plans for a restructuring through the sale or closure of six production plants nationwide by June 2007. The results of the divestiture total roughly $200 million in net sales, and an exiting of about 1,400 workers - nearly half of all those currently employed by the company. more

New Parma town clerk settles into job
Donna Curry is close to two months into her job as the Town of Parma clerk and she says every day is different. "I was fortunate to have been trained in some manner for all the various functions of the town clerk's office. I am grateful for the time I had to learn from Carol Kluth, my predecessor," she said. more

Western New York Garlic Farmers Market Day August 12

Churchville Moose Lodge #2244 made a $5,000 donation to Mercy Flight Central, the region's emergency helicopter service, to purchase jet fuel. more

Road repair planned in Clarkson
The Town of Clarkson has contracted with Suit-Kote to apply a product known as Micro-Mat (Slurry Seal) to various streets. This product has a drying time of approximately four hours and may not be traveled on during that time. more

Hilton Post Office Clerk retires
Surrounded by flowers from well-wishers, Deanna Gump serves her last day of a 33-year career at the Hilton Post Office. more

The Byron-Bergen Board of Education, at their July 27 meeting, appointed Keith Wing to the position of 5-12 Dean of Students/Athletic Director. more

New administrator chosen at Brockport HS
The Brockport Central School District Board of Education announced the appointment of Leslie Wehner, assistant principal at the Brockport High School. She began her new role July 1. more

Holley student Alyssa Lasch received the Andrew DeCarlo Achievement Award at the annual sixth-grade Moving Up Day awards assembly. more

Senior Center plans trip to Canadian car plant
The Hilton-Parma Senior Center is offering a trip to Cambridge, Ontario, Canada to Canada's Toyota Motor manufacturing plant on Thursday, September 21. It includes a sit-down luncheon en route to the manufacturing plant in which guests will take a behind-the-scenes tour where Corolla, Matrix and Lexus RX 330's are built. more

Seniors invited to celebration concert
The third annual Monroe County Senior Celebration Concert will take place on Monday, August 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ontario Beach Park. The free concert is a celebration of the important work seniors have done in the community. more

Churchville Orioles take home championship
The Churchville Orioles 10U baseball team completed a successful 2006 season by winning 6-5 over Pittsford in the Monroe County Babe Ruth/USSSA playoff championship game. more

Hilton volleyball heats up
Janie Danielecki, Lisa Koroniwsky and Danielle Dyminski were among 55 participants in volleyball camps and open gyms organized by girls varsity and JV coaches Jon and Kierstin Meyers and Pam Stadtmiller and Shannon Ingles. more

NASF/Pony League All-Star game results
The North American Sports Federation/Pony softball league of western Monroe and eastern Orleans counties held its first All Star game July 26 in Chili. The visiting team was comprised of players from Brockport and Spencerport, and the home team was comprised of players from Chili, Forty and One and Holley. more

Rage Girls U14 tourney champs
The Spencerport Rage Girls U14 team of the Spencerport Soccer Club traveled to Clarence, NY to participate in the Clarence Classic Soccer Tournament on July 22 and 23. The Rage, after scoring 14 goals and conceding only one goal for the weekend, were crowned the Classic Tournament Champions finishing with three wins and one tie. more

Ranger fall sport preseason parent and student-athlete meeting
The fall 2006 season Spencerport Ranger V/JV parent and student-athlete preseason meeting will be held on Friday, August 18. The SSBC will have dinner (burgers, hot dogs, refreshments, etc.) for sale beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the High School Football Stadium concession stand. more

Ranger wrestler wins national championship
Spencerport's Bryan Bourne won the national championship at 160 pounds by going undefeated in 10 matches at the National High School Wrestling Championships July 22-29 in Fargo, North Dakota. Bourne pinned the fourth-ranked wrestler in the nation in the semi-finals and won 6-0 against a wrestler from Rhode Island and the prestigious Blair Academy of New Jersey to win the national title. more

Riverbats advance
Churchville-Chili's Jake Dennstedt allowed just one run over eight innings and Keith Meyer got his second save of the playoffs to lead the Genesee Riverbats to within one victory of the championship series in the New York Collegiate Baseball League playoffs. more

Spencerport U12 boys southwest inter-league soccer team finished their season a perfect 12-0 record. more

Sweden Clarkson Bisons win 40 & 1 Tournament
The 2006 Sweden Clarkson Bisons 12U Travel Baseball Team finished in first place at the Rochester 40 & 1 tournament July 14-16, defeating Spencerport 6-1. more
