Bill allows Chili to sell land,
use funds to improve or add park land

Senator Jim Alesi, 55th District and Assemblymember Susan John (D-Rochester/Chili/Wheatland/Rush/Riga) announced that Governor George E. Pataki will sign his bill allowing the Town of Chili to sell land at 49 Sequoia Drive and use the funds to improve existing parks or acquire new park land. The piece of land, which has been vacant and undeveloped since the 1980s, will be sold to a lifelong Chili resident who plans to build a single family home on the property.

"The sale of 49 Sequoia Drive closes a controversial issue for the Town of Chili," said Alesi. "The town will use the profits from this sale to improve upon existing parks or to acquire new open space. It will also generate tax dollars from the new owner."

"The Town has added another piece of unutilized property back on to our tax rolls and we look forward to the addition of another new home to our area," said Tracy Logel, Town of Chili supervisor.

Last year, residents of Chili were given the opportunity to voice their opinion on the matter in a referendum vote. Once the measure passed, legislation was introduced allowing the town to sell the land to resident Dan Lynch. "The legislation that was passed in Albany was in response to overwhelming public opinion and a home rule message sent by the Chili Town Board," said Alesi.
