Western New York Garlic Farmers Market Day August 12

A local agricultural and culinary favorite will be celebrated at Garlic Market Day (formerly Western NY Garlic Harvest Festival) in the parking area of Pontillo's Pizzeria, 500 East Main Street (Rt. 5), Batavia, on Saturday, August 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.

Pontillo's will have available a number of garlic-flavored dishes for sampling. This year's activities will feature cooking demonstrations and garlic talks about the different varieties, how to grow garlic, storage and medicinal uses.

Growers from around Western New York are indicating that this year's crop is a bit smaller due to weather conditions in early summer. However, the local growers at this market will have plenty of seed garlic, braids, tied bundles, gift items, free information and lots of tasty eating garlic for sale.

As a special compliment to the market day, organizers have invited Herbly Wonderful, a local herb farm featuring fresh herbs and flowers, and the Nesbitt Family Farms, with fresh fruits and vegetables, to complement the day's offerings.

For information call any of the following garlic farms: Fraser's (585) 350-8295, Mele's 638-8591, Piedmonte's 638-6461 or Pontillo's 343-3303 and 768-6660.
