New administrator chosen at Brockport HS

The Brockport Central School District Board of Education announced the appointment of Leslie Wehner, assistant principal at the Brockport High School. She began her new role July 1. Wehner comes to the BCSD from the Rush-Henrietta School District where she was a principal for one-and-a-half years and prior to that she was an assistant principal in the Greece Central School for four years. She also taught in the Greece Central School District for more than 11 years before becoming an administrator. Wehner holds a master of science degree in educational administration from Canisius College, a master's degree in secondary earth science from SUNY Brockport and a bachelor's degree in geology from SUNY College at Oneonta. Wehner replaces Lyn Mrowka who retired in June.

A pool of 55 candidates was narrowed down to 13 candidates who were interviewed by high school faculty and administrators. A final selection committee interviewed the top four candidates.

Wehner is responsible for working with the special education and English Language Arts departments. She plans to learn about all the traditions at the high school and support students in their academic, social and extra curricular activities. "I'm excited to get to know the students and staff and strive for all students to be successful," Wehner said. "Having both of my children graduate from the school system, I have a great appreciation of the valued educational program here in Brockport, and I plan to contribute to its continuing legacy of excellence. I'm looking forward to many new challenges."

Wehner resides in Brockport with her husband, Stephen, daughter, Kimberly, a 2003 graduate of BHS and Otto, their chocolate lab. Her oldest daughter, Becky, a 2001 graduate of BHS and 2005 graduate of Marietta College in Ohio, lives in Rochester and works for County Executive Maggie Brooks as a communications coordinator.
