Master gardener training class scheduled

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Genesee County will offer a Master Gardener Training series for community members interested in learning about a variety of horticulture topics and become a certified Master Gardener after volunteering with the Master Gardener Program.

The training course will be offered on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. from September 6 to December 13.

Classes will be held at the Kennedy building located on the Genesee County Fairgrounds on Route 5 in Batavia.

Classes two, three and four in the series will be at the Genesee County Park Interpretive Center located at 11095 Bethany Center Road, East Bethany.

During the 15-week program, participants will learn about garden botany, pruning, annuals, perennials, insects, houseplants, organic gardening, soils, fertilizers, home fruits, vegetables and pest management around the home. Graduates of the program may then do volunteer work at their local Extension in order to become a certified Master Gardener.

The fee for the series is $200 per person and includes a NYS Master Gardener Manual. Registration is required in advance. Contact Consumer Horticulture Educator Gail Culver at (585) 343-3040, ext. 132 or at the Extension office located at 420 East Main Street in Batavia.
