Students pop their tops for Lakeside

Lakeside Memorial Hospital's ongoing "Pop Your Top for Lakeside" drive received pop can tops from students of the Brockport Migrant Education Project. Over a four week period, 4th graders collected pop can tabs from both their fellow students and from their homes, according to Lesa Bo, teacher and coordinator of the program. The children collected 1,970 pop tops in a three week period. Above, the children tip their tabs from collecting cans they specifically decorated for this purpose. In response to their many questions, Krystyna Staub, VP of development and community relations, explained the process of recycling the tabs by Lyell Metalico. All proceeds raised from this project are given to Lakeside Memorial Hospital's Twig Association which in turn donates the funds to the hospital for the ongoing purchase of medical equipment. The community can also save their pop and beer can tabs for recycling.
