Spencerport school tax rate stays the same

For the second year in a row, property owners in the Spencerport Central School District will see a zero percent tax rate increase in their school tax bills. On August 8, the board of education approved a tax levy of $30,609,000 resulting in an overall tax rate of $24.58 per $1,000 in assessed value, the same rate as 2005. As an example, the school tax bill for a home in the Spencerport School District with an assessed value of $100,000, and a STAR exemption of $30,000 will be $1,721.

Under the school budget approved by voters in May, the district anticipated a tax rate increase of less than one-percent (.87%). Since then, the four towns that comprise the district reported changes in the value of property assessments. Final numbers reported to the district on August 1 provided the opportunity for the board of education to keep the tax rate the same as last year.

Property owners may still see an increased tax bill because of property improvements and/or higher reassessments from their town government.
