Barn Project spotlights beauty of Hilton area's rural structures
Hilton-Parma Historic Barn Project will display over 100 barn photographs at Hilton Apple Fest

The Hilton-Parma Historic Barn Project will display more than 100 Barn Photographs at Apple Fest on September 30 through October 1 in Ingham Room of Hilton Community Center. "Barns are sometimes overlooked," said Joe Lee, co-chair of the Hilton-Parma Historic Barn Project and co-chair of the Hilton Apple Fest, "and for that reason, we thought it was important not only for the historical record to photograph them, but also let our town know just how beautiful they are."

A framed image of a barn in winter will be raffled off for $1 a ticket. Announcement of winner will be made at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

In the summer of 2005, a team of professional photographers calling itself the Hilton-Parma Historic Barn Project, set out to not only document, but portray the barns in the Hilton area. The photographers of the Barn Project are volunteers. The project has been sponsored by the Village of Hilton, the Town of Parma and the Hilton Apple Fest in an effort to recognize and bring attention to the more than 190 historic barns in the area. It has linked up with local historians to help preserve this part of the community's heritage in future projects such as a CD and book.

The Barn Project photographers are: David Beadling, professional photographer; Bill Bernbeck, Image City Gallery Photographer/Owner; Barbara Carder, Hilton School District Communications Photographer; Christine Carder, Hilton High School graduate; Walt Horylev, Westside News Inc. freelance photographer; Chuck Nichols, professional photographer; Maureen Spindler, Village Photographer of Hilton; Harriet Zunno, Apple Fest photographer. Historians and writers are: Mary Townsend, John Bullock and Tom Burger.
