Education Award winners honored Oct. 18

The 22nd Annual Marguerite Hare Browne Professional Education Awards dinner will be held Wednesday, October 18 at the Greece Marriott. This event is a celebration to honor individuals who contribute to the excellence of education in the community.

The Service to Education Award is being presented to Dr. Josephine Kehoe, interim superintendent of the Greece Central School District. Kehoe was selected to receive this award because of her service to the school district and the Greece community as GCSD interim superintendent. She has demonstrated her belief in, and support of, education in the town. Through her expertise in listening, assessing, and acting on issues and needs, she has encouraged the school district to grow in organization, spirit, trust, and strength. Visible and available to community stakeholders, Kehoe has been open and proactive helping the district and town return to its focus on excellent education for the students.

This year's other award recipients are: Courtney McGonagle, a graduate of Odyssey High School, who is pursuing certification in education at SUNY Brockport; Jaclyn Cellura, for excellence in student teaching in Greece schools; teachers Dee McCartney, Cheryl Brinkman, Rich Fiorito, and Laurie King, for outstanding supervision and mentoring of teacher candidates; Sarah Mancini, for excellence in scholarship and teaching potential; and Kevin Speer, SUNY Brockport sophomore, who will be the first recipient of the new Fred Dean Scholarship.

The Professional Education Awards were established in the 1980s through the SUNY College at Brockport Foundation, to honor student teachers as well as those Greece teachers who host them.

The reception on October 18 will begin at the Greece Marriott at 6 p.m., with dinner served at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person. Contact Donna Noble at (585) 750-8249 or dnoble@rochester.rr.com for information.
