Public transportation options for students and Orleans County residents expand

The Orleans Transit Service, Inc. (OTS) and Brockport Student Government has launched a new service for Brockport students and staff seeking to ease their commute with expanded service including a new commuter route from Albion to Brockport.

"OTS saw a steady increase in ridership our first week providing the new service," said Mark Aesch, chief executive officer of RGRTA. "Public transportation allows students greater flexibility and freedom to travel throughout the area for shopping, entertainment and employment."

Students are not the only ones to benefit from the service expansion. Residents of Medina and Albion who commute to Brockport during the week will save money on gas, insurance and wear and tear on their cars when they ride OTS daily service to campus and the Village of Brockport. Brockport residents and students can take advantage of off-campus routes weekdays from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. OTS buses run every hour. Weekend off-campus routes operate between the hours of noon to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

OTS Brockport Public Bus Service offers weekend service to Greece Ridge Center and The Marketplace malls and a new east end service Friday and Saturday nights between 9 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. Students and staff will also have the option of break/holiday service to the airport, bus and train stations.

"Accessible public transportation creates an infrastructure which supports economic development and stability making it possible for students to begin their careers in the community," Aesch said in a press release.
