Sculpture toppled

Vandalism is suspected in the destruction of the newly installed wrought iron sculpture in Remembrance Park in the Village of Brockport. Jennifer Hecker's, "The Roots and the Reasons" sculpture was installed and dedicated on September 10. On September 16, unknown individuals pushed the sculpture over, bending it and breaking several parts. Trustee Carrie Maziarz said Hecker "was just sick" over it. Members of the Arts and Aesthetics Committee, who helped raise $10,000 for the sculpture's construction, are gathering donations as a reward for the conviction of the vandal. Lori Skoog of the Walk!Bike! and Aesthetic Committee said the vandalism, "hurt not only the artist but the whole community." Donations can be mailed to the Village of Brockport, 49 State Street, Brockport, NY 14420 with a note stating Stone Soup Reward fund. Photo by Robbi Hess.
