Celebrating "The Star-Spangled Banner"

For the second year, Holley Elementary students and staff celebrated the anniversary of when Francis Scott Key penned the lyrics to "The Star-Spangled Banner" - September 14, 1814. Students and staff gathered in the Intermediate Gym to sing the national anthem together, display their handmade flags, and listen to the Senior High School Band play and High School Chorus sing. Before the musical performances, fifth and sixth graders Samuel Beadle, Elenna Bibby, Dakota Chilson, Emily Kordovich, Isaac Miller, Alyssa Scherer and Alyssa Young retold the history of when this song became our national anthem. By participating in this national project, entitled the National Anthem Project, the district is celebrating the important role music educators play in passing along our American heritage.
