Gifted Education Conference coming to Rochester

The AGATE (Advocacy for Gifted and Talented Education) statewide gifted education conference will be held in Rochester on October 26, 27 and 28 at the Clarion Riverside Hotel.

Keynote speakers will be Robin Willner, vice president for Global Community Initiatives, IBM Corp; Dr. Sally Reis, professor of Educational Psychology, UConn; Christopher O'Riley, concert pianist, and host of NPR's From the Top. There will be more than 100 workshops for participants, a parent emphasis day on Friday with workshops and featured speakers for parents. On Saturday, October 28, local students will showcase their talents and the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra will perform with O'Riley.

A "Beyond the Summit" dinner and panel discussion will be held on Thursday evening, October 26, designed as a follow up to the New York State Education Summit held in Albany. The panel discussion will be a dialogue about the contributions gifted education can make in our collective efforts to close the achievement gap and prepare students for work in a global economy. Panel members will be business, corporate and educational leaders.
