SUNY Brockport ranks high with students

SUNY College at Brockport students ranked college food service, campus center/student union and student radio station number one among all 27 SUNY campuses in the 2006 Student Opinion Survey. The survey is administered every three years. Forty-two undergraduate classes were randomly selected, and 915 students responded (80 percent response rate).

President John R. Halstead said, "At SUNY Brockport, everything starts and ends with student success. That's why it is so gratifying to see the latest results of the 2006 Student Opinion Survey for several reasons. First, as we measure our progress since 2000 and 2003, we see considerable upward movement in areas directly related to student success. This year, SUNY Brockport students responded significantly higher levels of general satisfaction with the college as well as overall impressions of our quality. Students are consistently satisfied with a range of services from our library to cultural programs and are increasingly satisfied with financial aid and residence halls. Secondly, Brockport is ranked number one among all SUNY campuses for our campus center, food service and radio station and number one among our peers of comprehensive colleges in such important services as computers, course labs, internships, health and wellness and our student newspaper. We say we're the rising star in SUNY, and our students verify this in their ratings of our college."

The college also got high marks for the availability of computers, library resources and services, class size and availability of instructors outside of class.

In addition to the SUNY survey, students were asked to complete a local questionnaire containing questions that were specific to Brockport. When asked to identify Brockport's greatest strength, they answered: Overall quality of campus life (23.8 percent); affordability (15.5 percent); and quality of instruction (14.9 percent).
