Wood, Spencerport in four

The Rangers used a strong game at the net and defensively to spearhead a 25-22, 25-20, 20-25, 25-13 win over Churchville-Chili in boy's volleyball. The victory marked the first time in four years Spencerport has defeated the Saints.

After taking the first two games, the Rangers lost their focus and trailed 17-9 in the third game which the Saints won. But Spencerport closed with an 11-8 run following a time-out, which gave them momentum leading to their game four victory.

The Rangers jumped out to a 14-5 lead in game four and closed the match with kills on four of the final five points by Kevin Mark, Kevin Curran and two by Steve Wood.

Wood led the offense with 17 kills along with four aces. Christian Woodard handed out 34 assists while Curran had 10 kills, three blocks and three aces. Mark also chipped in with six kills and three blocks. Scott Hebert led Churchville-Chili with six kills.

Spencerport has won the Monroe County championship in four of the last five seasons including one year ago.
