28th Apple Derby Run, a full 5 miles

A crisp fall morning greeted 73 runners for the 28th Annual Apple Derby 5-Mile Run sponsored by Hilton-Parma Recreation Department. With trophy opportunities in eight age classifications and a special Masters Division, runners were poised to produce individual best times.

Overall winner Ron Saxton (29:44) outdistanced second place finisher Master Division winner Joe Haungs (30:10), and overall 2005 champion Alan Pogroszewski (30:18). Fourth place finisher Gregory Nowakowski (31:57) was the only other competitor to run the course under 32 minutes.

Overall Female Champion Marlene Disano (35:50) finished eleventh overall, 39 seconds ahead of the second female to complete the race, Masters Champion Juana Guszkowski (36:29).

Special acknowledgment to runners Jim Glinsky (35:43) tenth place overall and first within the 60-69 male age category, and Connie Hibbard, (39:38) fifth place female finisher and first within the 60-69 female age category.

Organizers and volunteers included Tom Ganley, Jim Merkel who led the racers through the course, the Monroe County Sheriff's Department who followed the runners. The Hilton Central School District allowed use of their facilities and grounds.
