Candidates for fire commissioner
sought for Morton district

Residents of the Morton Fire District who are interested in seeking election to seats on the five-member Board of Fire Commissioners are invited to apply. Two seats will be vacant for the 2007 election to be held in early 2007. One is a five year term; the other is a one year term to fill a vacated position.

Commissioners are responsible for purchasing and maintaining fire equipment, providing firefighter training, and maintenance of the fire department headquarters through use of tax-generated revenues. Commissioners meet each month and prepare a budget for the district, approve the payment of bills, research projects and hear reports from the fire chief and from the towns of Hamlin and Kendall.

Any adult living in the Morton Fire District is eligible to run. Beyond interest in the district, applicants must also pass a petition and get signatures of 25 other district residents.
