AREA

Browne, Belva, On September 17, 2006 at the age of 96. She is survived by her sister, Helen (Richard) Sweeting; her son, Todd (Ester) Browne, and her daughter, Bunny Browne, as well as three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive callers at the Morgan-Manning House, Brockport, on Saturday, November 11, from 2 to 4 p.m.


ALBION

Twardowski, Zachary David, infant son of Pauline (Brundage) and Jason Twardowski of Albion, died October 18, 2006 at Unity Park Ridge Hospital, Greece. In addition to his parents, Zachary is survived by his brother, Jacob; grandparents David Brundage of Holley and Patricia (Al) Patterson of Tonawanda and also Laura and Richard O'Hearn of Albion; his great-grandmother Hattie Rist of Florida and great-grandfather Harold Taggart of Pennsylvania; his great-great grandmother Vera Maitland of Hamburg and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Funeral Service was held October 28 at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., Albion. Burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the organization of one's choice in his memory.


BROCKPORT

Ricotta, Catherine S. (Smitty), October 21, 2006, at the age of 85, after a brief illness. She is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Frank, and is survived by her children, Kathleen Maloney, Frank (Colleen), Anne (Barry) Jones, Barbara and Susan; her grandchildren, Bridget Maloney, Sheila (Sam) Marroquin, Sarah (Peter) Geer, Theresa and Benjamin Jones, Nicole and Michael Ziegler; great-grandchildren, Jamison and Taylor Marroquin; several nieces and nephews. Catherine has been Regent and a longtime member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She was a teacher for many years in various school districts including Avon, Brockport and Geneseo.

A Funeral Mass was said October 24 at the Church of Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary, Brockport. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery, Geneseo. Donations can be made to the Seymour Library or a charity of one's choice in her memory.


CHURCHVILLE

Emerson, Margaret P. "Pat," October 15, 2006. Predeceased by her husband Charles W. Emerson. Loving mother of James (Shirley) Emerson, Charles (Maureen) Emerson Jr., Lisa (Michael) Olson and Tricia (James) Kunkel; granddaughters, Misty, Tiffany, Cara, Kelly, Jillian, Krista, Caroline, and Alexis; three great granddaughters. Survived by four brothers and one sister. Pat was a member of the Harvey C. Noone American Legion Post #954 Ladies Auxiliary.

Funeral Services and interment in St. Vincent DePaul Cemetery were held at the convenience of the family. Contributions can be made to the American Heart Association in her memory.


HAMLIN

Grant, Phillip C., Suddenly on Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at the age of 58. He is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Curtis (Amy), Jackie (Richard) Goslau; four grandchildren, Ashleigh, Alicia, Jenna, Tyler; his mother, Wilda (Bert) Brown; sister, Joanne (Dwight) Egan; several nieces and nephews. Phillip was a soccer coach for years in Hamlin and an avid hunter.

Funeral Services and interment were held in Norfolk, New York. Contributions can be made to the American Heart Association in his memory.


HILTON

Baliu, Michelle A., Unexpectedly, October 23, 2006. Survived by her husband, Donald; sister, Diane (Gary) Fritz; mother and father-in-law, Marian and Jose Baliu; sister-in-law, Carol (Thomas) Lotta; nieces and nephews. She was a registered nurse at Park Ridge Hospital.

Closs, Virginia I., October 19, 2006, age 92. Predeceased by her husband, George, 2001 and her son-in-law, Blair Johnson, 1992. Survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Johnson, Mary Sue and Richard True, Jane and Tom Warth, Paula and Jerold Goldman; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and many friends.

Funeral Services were held October 22 at the Thomas E. Burger Funeral Homes, Inc., Hilton. Interment, Rose Cemetery, Rose, New York. Wheten, Charles E., October 22, 2006, at age 87. Survived by his wife, Vera S. Wheten; sons, Mark (Wilma) Wheten, Robert Wheten; grandson, Stefan Wheten; sister, Mae Rauscher; several nieces, nephews and cousins; many friends. Charles is a Veteran of World War II.

HOLLEY

Sands, Ethel M. (Alvut), of McKenzie, Tennessee died October 5, 2006 at the age of 61 at Jackson General Hospital, Jackson, Tennessee. Mrs. Sands was born August 20, 1945 in Albion to Marion Marshall and the late Clifford R. Marshall Sr. She is survived by her husband, Bernard G. Sands of McKenzie, Tennessee; four daughters, Tina (Mike) Downey of Hamburg, Penny (Sean) Kavanagh of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Charlene (Mike) Schicker of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Mariah Zarpentine and Dennis Boyko of Holley; step-son Mark Steven Sands of St. Louis, Missouri; step-daughter, Althea Cuadras of Morristown, Tennessee; mother Marion Marshall of Holley; brothers, Clifford R. (Cathy) Marshall Jr. of Hamlin, Richard (Mary Ann) Marshall of Corfu; sister, Linda (Stefan) Kessel Jr. of Hamlin; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild.

A Memorial Service was held October 28 at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., Holley. Interment, Mt. Albion Cemetery. Contributions can be made to Breast Cancer Research in her memory.


SPENCERPORT

Shafer, Dolores F., October 23, 2006, at age 76. Survived by her husband of 51 years Oscar W. Shafer; her sons, Michael W. (Helen) Shafer, Jeffrey (Michelle) Shafer of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Jennifer (Deepak) Thettu, Michael T. Shafer and Luke R. Shafer; brother, George L. (Rita) May Jr.; sisters, Ginny (Fred) Stanzel, Kay (Edward) Underwood, Marge (Bob) Kanaley, Eileen (Ted) Kosciolek and Patty Lloyd. Dolores was a parishioner of St. John's Church in Spencerport for over 50 years.

Stromquist, Genesee Elin, Genesee, beloved daughter of Bert and Nikki Stromquist and sister of Ayla Stromquist and Clayton Stromquist, was born at Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital on January 11, 2004. She died in Sitka on October 8, 2006. She is also survived by her paternal grandmother, Marcia Stromquist of Spencerport; maternal grandparents Dr. William and Mona Beach, LaConner, Washington; paternal aunts Lynn (Pat), Sue (Dominic) and cousins Derrick and Tori, all of Rochester; maternal aunts and uncles Jeannie (Bob), Judy (Frank), Carolyn, Roger, David, William Jr., Mike (Susan); cousins Kristi, Gina, Bobby, Jessica and Christopher.

Funeral Services were held October 27 at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial in Sitka Memorial Park. Zimmer, Bernardine E., (Ehmann), October 22, 2006 at age 83. Predeceased by her husband, Peter "Ray" Zimmer. Survived by her children Dr. Elizabeth Zimmer, Mary T. Zimmer, Peter L. (Susanne) Zimmer, Paula (Gilbert) Tardge, Jean (Jeffrey) DeRuyter, Bernard (Vicky) Zimmer and Michael (Pam) Zimmer; sister Winnifred (William) Dalton; brothers Donald (Georgene) Ehmann and Dr. Edward (Joan) Ehmann; brother-in-law, Robert (Clementine) Zimmer; sisters-in-law Judy Ehmann, Eileen Zimmer and Gladys Zimmer; 12 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
