Village of Brockport receives public works award

The New York State Conference of Mayors (NYCOM) recognized the Village of Brockport, Mayor Mort Wexler and the Village Board of Trustees for Harvester Park and Welcome Center by designating them the winners of the 2006 NYCOM Pride in Public Works Award. The award was presented as part of NYCOM's Public Works Training School which was held in Syracuse, October 23-26. The event, attended primarily by city and village public works superintendents, municipal engineers and department heads, brings together local officials to share ideas and hear experts in the field of public works.

The project was judged against entries statewide, utilizing the following four criteria: program innovation; economic benefit to the community; improvement of the quality of life; citizen participation; improved government efficiency; service improvement and applicability to other municipalities.

In announcing the award, NYCOM Executive Director Peter A. Baynes said, "This award demonstrates that municipalities are finding innovative ways to improve the quality of life for residents of New York State. We commend the Village of Brockport for their efforts and look forward to further stories."
