Area teams win Section V titles

Brockport's boy's soccer team, Hilton's girl's cross country, Hilton gymnastics and Byron-Bergen's girl's volleyball team each were victorious in their respective Section V championship games.

Volleyball
The Bees won their fifth consecutive girl's volleyball title with a 25-12, 25-18, 25-19 sweep over fourth-seeded Nazareth. The Most Valuable Player award went to senior Alyssa D. Errico for the fifth consecutive year. She will head to State College, Pennsylvania next fall on scholarship.

The Bees defeated Pembroke and Williamson in the semi-finals and quarterfinals respectively and did not lose a game in taking the title. Looking to win their third consecutive state championship, B-B defeated Marion in the qualifier for the state playoffs 25-6, 25-13, 25-18 and were to begin the Far West State Regional playoffs at Genesee Community College Saturday.

Gymnastics
Hilton set the school mark with 139.350 points to win the sectional crown. Four of the Cadet's seven sectional qualifiers made the Monroe county state team and will move on the state tournament: Paige Wray, Nikki Morabito, Stephanie Monnat and Renae Ranzenbach.

Wray placed third in the All-Around and the floor exercise while Ranzenbach was third on the balance beam. The state tournament will be March 3 at Rush-Henrietta.

Cross Country
Hilton runners finished in the top three spots and had seven of the top 21 on their way to the 2006 Section Five title.

Allison Sawyer finished first in 19:33.2 followed by Caroline Schultz 16 seconds later and Sarah Ritchie. Ashley Jones, Lindsay Crocetti, Chelsea Abrams and Kristen Campbell were the other top finishers for the Cadets.

Hilton's team time was 6:11 better than second place Rush-Henrietta.
