A painting by Dale Rath, a former state assemblyman, Monroe County Republican Chairman, Monroe County Legislator and Sweden Town Supervisor will be on display at the North Star History Center at the corner of Walker Lake Ontario (Rte 260) and Church Roads in Hamlin. more

Lakeside announces line up for sold-out gala dinner event
Entertainment for the Lakeside Gala Dinner event on December 8 will begin with the Amadeus Chorale of Greater Rochester and Hilltop Singers, the children's choir from the Brockport Central School District. The singers will welcome guest speaker Bill O'Reilly as he arrives at Lakeside. The singers have performed for speakers in the past including Mary Matlin and James Carville, former Mayor of New York City Rudy Giuliani, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, and Generals Tommy Franks, Colin Powell and Norman Schwarzkopf. more

Ogden to start property field review
The Town of Ogden Assessor's Office will begin a field review of all of the properties in the town as required by the New York State Office of Real Property Services. The entire town will be driven and the property data on file will be compared with what is seen in the field. This will typically be done from the street. Property photos will also be updated as part of the process; so some houses will be photographed. more

Riga still in budget discussions
With a little more than a month to go, Town of Riga officials remain embroiled in salary discussions for the 2007 budget - which, according to state law must be passed by December 20. more

Spencerport attorney receives Nathaniel Award
Steven Modica, Spencerport resident and founding partner of the law firm Modica & Associates, was one of three recipients of the 2006 Nathaniel Award at a luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Rochester on November 7. The Nathaniel Award - named after the founder of The Daily Record, a local legal/business daily newspaper - recognizes individuals and organizations who are "champions of justice and community service." more

Today’s library: Community hub
It now takes the average, Internet-capable library patron under one minute to search for an audio book copy of a book on Compact Disc (less than 30 seconds if you’re “Search” savvy), locate which library has it in stock and have it shipped to the nearest branch within the Monroe County Library System for the sum of 50 cents or pick it up at the library for free. more

'Voice your choice' for energy providers underway
According to Rochester Gas and Electric, only about 50,000 of its customers have made their formal choices known under the annual electricity Voice Your Choice program. Customers are given an option to choose an electricity carrier under the state's deregulation program. The choice must be made by December 29. more

Welcome Center wraps up season
The Canalfront hospitality program in the Village of Brockport completed its second successful season on October 31, according to Bill Andrews, a member of the Canalfront Management Committee. more

Winners of the Walk, Bike, Brockport Action Group poster contest named
Mayor Mort Wexler and local artist and retired teacher Lori Skoog selected the winning posters from the 101 entries in the Walk, Bike, Brockport Action Group's third annual pedestrian and bicycle safety poster contest. Students in grades one through five in the Brockport central schools participated. more

Agricultural district hearing scheduled
Monroe County's Southwestern Agricultural District, located in the Towns of Chili, Riga and Wheatland, is currently under review. As part of this process, property owners had the opportunity to request that their land be added to or removed from the district. more

Lakeside's new health system logo was launched as a sign of its new direction of growth to meet changing needs in our community. more

A courageous ride
To celebrate Red Ribbon Week, Holley Elementary School focused on the theme "I have the courage to be a Drug-Free Me!" To kick off the week of activities, Nels Cremean performed his "High on Life" program, which emphasizes the courage it takes to make healthy choices that develop body, mind and character. more

Business Honor Society members named
The Spencerport High School Business Honor Society accepted six new members. Faculty advisor Kelly Inzinga reports that based on an extensive application process, Jamie Colaprete, Laura Flemming, Courtney McBride, Cara McGovern, Annie Modica and Dan Otto have been accepted into the 2006-07 chapter of Business Honor Society. more

Dictionary Day at Barclay
Students at Brockport's Barclay Elementary School recently celebrated the birthday of Noah Webster, who worked on the first American dictionary more than 200 years ago. more

ELA test results are in
The results from the ELA tests students took in grades three through eight last year are available. The Brockport Central School District will send the ELA results along with the math results in December. more

Fraternity completes community service project
On Saturday, November 4, approximately 20 members of the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity lent their services to a community beautification project in the village. more

Holley students, staff enjoy fresh produce from local farms
Locally grown produce was brought into the Holley Elementary School for a week in October to promote healthy eating and support local growers. more

Kendall students work on 'crime scene'
It's not CSI: Las Vegas, New York or Miami, but CSI: Kendall. A group of sixth graders participated in a BOCES 2 Project ADEPT (A Diversified Enrichment Program for the Talented) that gave them a chance to explore the "real work" of people who investigate crime scenes. more

Kiwanis and Key Club support school project
More than 8,800 members from the New York District of Kiwanis International are taking part in a statewide "Give a Bookmark, Get a Bookmark" Project. The Key Club of Brockport High School, in coordination with the Brockport Kiwanis Club, participated in this project. more

Red Ribbon Week celebrated
Students and staff at CTE at BOCES 2 participated in Red Ribbon Week with students across the nation to celebrate making healthy choices and remaining drug-free. more

Red Ribbon Week poster contest winners
"Drug Free, The Healthy Way to Be" was the theme in the Brockport Central School District during Red Ribbon Week, October 23-27. Using the Red Ribbon theme, students in grades K-12 participated in a poster contest sponsored by the Brockport Elks Lodge No. 2110 BPOE. more

Spencerport students among nation's best
Spencerport High School Senior Steven Burek is a Semifinalist in the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Burek placed among the nation's highest scorers in the Preliminary SAT, and has the ability to advance to finalist standing. more

Spencerport Wellness committee seeks volunteers
The Spencerport Central School District is launching a Comprehensive Health and Wellness Initiative (CHWI) to help support the physical, mental and social health of staff and students as well as to remove barriers to learning. This initiative also supports the district's new Wellness Policy, approved by the board of education. more

On November 11, Isshin Ryu Karate Black Belt promotion tests were held at the Gillam Grant Center in Byron-Bergen under the direction of Shihan Cyndy Jones. more

Blue Devils season ends
After winning their second consecutive boy's soccer Section Five title, Brockport's season came to an end with a 1-0 loss to Webster Thomas on a goal in the final minute of regulation in the Class A state qualifier held at PAETEC Park. more

Ten-year-old Natalie LaCourt was the high point winner of the 2006 SDSC Fall Classic Invitational, Each of her five swims were personal best times. more
