Welcome Center wraps up season

The Canalfront hospitality program in the Village of Brockport completed its second successful season on October 31, according to Bill Andrews, a member of the Canalfront Management Committee.

The number of boat/nights logged in by boaters increased from 319 in 2005 to 517 in 2006, a 62 percent growth. The fees paid by boaters for overnight access to the facilities rose from about $2,300 last year to about $4,300, 87 percent higher.

The Welcome Center and the Harvest Park improvements were recognized as the "outstanding public works project" in the state by the New York Council of Mayors. The Genesee Regional chapter of the American Public Works Association presented the village with its corresponding award.

The Welcome Center was staffed by volunteers, with 101 on the roster. Submitted material.
