Kate Earnhart is a member of the University of Maryland Club Field Hockey Team that captured the National Field Hockey League 2006 National Championship on November 12 defeating Penn State in the semi-final and James Madison in the final. She was a member of the Hilton High School field varsity hockey team from 2000 to 2003.

Earnhart, the daughter of Marj and Ed Earnhart of Hilton, is a junior at University of Maryland majoring in math education and public leadership.


Brad Schreiber was hired as director of development at SUNY College at Brockport. He will be a member of a team of advancement professionals focused on building philanthropic relationships with the primary goal of securing significant private support to advance SUNY Brockport's mission.

A resident of Greece, Schreiber earned his bachelor's degree in physical education/sports management and master's in higher education administration from SUNY Brockport. Schreiber worked at SUNY Brockport beginning in 1985 as residence hall director, associate director of development and director of development before leaving in 2000 to become director of agency advancement at Mary Cariola Children's Center, Rochester.

Schreiber is president of the Greece Basketball Association, a board member for the Greece Cobra Soccer Club and also serves as a coach in both organizations. He is an assistant coach for the Hilton USSSA/Babe Ruth Baseball organization.

His wife, Liz Schreiber, is a sixth grade teacher at Greece Athena Middle School, and their two sons attend Hilton Central Schools.


Kelly E. Cholewa, daughter of Bertram and Nancy Cholewa, of Spencerport, will be a part of the 12th annual Holiday Spectacular presented by Ohio Northern University. Cholewa is a senior majoring in civil engineering.


The New York Lottery honored Spencerport High School English Teacher Marcia Hinman as its "Educator of the Week." A commercial featuring Hinman aired on 13-WHAM TV the week of November 13.

A former student, Rachel Hargarther, nominated Hinman for her dedication to helping her students understand literature and for serving as advisor to the school's First Priority Club. In nominating Hinman, Hargarther told the program sponsors that, "I think it's time that her enthusiasm and passion for teaching be recognized."


Dr. Sandra Short-Bartlett, a native of Spencerport and a 1977 graduate of Spencerport High School, has been appointed director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Benefis Health Systems in Montana. During her time in college and medical school, she studied and worked at Woods Hole in Massachusetts, Guy's Hospital in London, England, Strong Memorial Hospital and hospitals in Madrid, Spain and Lima, Peru. After Johns Hopkins, she completed her residency in pediatrics at UCLA Medical Center and a fellowship in Neonatology at the University of California, San Diego. Short-Bartlett and her husband, Vincent L. Bartlett and son, Vincent Elliott Bartlett, reside in Great Falls, Montana. She is the daughter of Christine and Elliott Short of Spencerport.


Gates Chili High School soccer defender/forward Maura Martin was selected at Soccer Player of the Year in the Monroe County I League. The senior scored six goals in 14 games even though she played the sweeper position. Gates Chili Soccer Coach Sam Birrittella said, "Maura completely organized our defense and transitioned the ball well from the defensive end to our midfield or directly to our offensive players." Birrittella presented Martin with a handsome plaque and a sporty jacket. The Spartans, however, lost to Penfield in the first round of the Sectionals.


Brother-in-law Marines Brian Flaherty and Brian Henner both received the rank of sergeant on November 1. Henner is a combat photographer, based in Iraq. Flaherty is a computer specialist based in Cherry Point, North Carolina. In January, Flaherty ships out to Iraq. Henner will be heading home in February.

Flaherty, of Kendall, is married to Henner's sister, Colleen. His parents are John and Catherine. Henner's parents are Mike and Betsy Henner of Spencerport.


Army Pfc. Christina M. Landis has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina.

She is the daughter of James Thaden of Whittier Road, Ogden and Penny Bane of West Main Street, Portland, NY.

Landis is a 2003 graduate of Brocton Central High School.
