B-B wins third volleyball championship

Alyssa D’Errico and Shavaughn Bartz were named to the All-Tournament Team as Byron-Bergen defeated Lansing from Section IV to win their third consecutive New York State Class C girl’s volleyball championship.

The Bees went 5-1 in pool play to advance to the final where they swept Lansing 25-16, 25-14, 25-18 at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Combined for the weekend, the Penn State bound D’Errico had 58 kills, 15 aces and 45 digs while Bartz dished out 92 assists with 19 digs. Mary Cocking had seven kills and 10 digs while Krysta Lougheed added 13 digs in the Lansing match.

The Bees finished the season with a 22-0 record and have won their last 57 dual matches. After defeating City Honors of Section VI 25-14, 25-16, 25-20 in the Far West Regional, Byron-Bergen advanced to the final by splitting two games with Lansing, sweeping Lake George of Section II and splitting with Center Moriches of Section VI.

In addition to D’Errico and Bartz, the Bees have four other seniors who leave as three-time champions in Sara George, Julia McCormick, Kristin Meyer and Ashley Lindner.
