Chili promotes 'project prepare'

"Project Prepare" is an initiative of the Monroe County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC). Its purpose is to advise and assist area residents in planning and preparing for an emergency.

As winter approaches, now is the perfect time to remind you of this project. Emergency Preparedness begins with you, and here are some steps that you can take in order to be prepared for an emergency, Town of Chili Supervisor Tracy Logel wrote in a press release.

First prepare a disaster supplies kit which would include a three-day supply of food and water, clothing and bedding, a first aid kit and any prescription medications you might need. A battery powered flashlight with extra batteries, cash, credit card or traveler's checks are helpful as well. Have a list of emergency phone numbers and family contacts. Purchase an All-Hazards battery powered radio that has S.A.M.E. technology (Specific Area Message Encoding), this allows you to program your radio to receive messages specific to our area. This combined All-Hazards/Weather Alert broadcast network is the single, most immediate source for comprehensive weather and emergency information available to the public. All-Hazard radios will actively broadcast emergency information in advance of TV and radio bulletins. These radios can also be adapted to alert deaf and hard of hearing people. Radios may be purchased locally or by going to www.midlandradio.com.

The Town of Chili is still accepting applications to fill vacancies on some of its boards and committees. The plumbing board has an opening for a licensed plumber and there are several openings in other areas. Applications are available on-line.

Anyone needing assistance, or wanting to share views about an issue facing the town, can contact Logel at 889-6111 or by e-mail tlogel@townofchili.org.
