Community-minded students receive award

Holley fourth grader Josh Porter and sixth grader Justin McMillion received November's Soaring to New Heights Award at the Holley Board of Education meeting after being nominated by their principal, Lee Ann Cervini. The boys demonstrated character and a willingness to help the community. During the October storm, Josh and Justin spent their time off from school at the Holley Fire Department assisting the department volunteers, helping citizens who came for refuge and pitching in to put away equipment.

"It's nice to have such positive examples of community service, especially in two students who are so young," said Board President John Heise. Josh and Justin also volunteered at the Holley Firemen's Carnival this year.
