Holley inducts 18 into National Honor Society

The Holley High School Chapter of the National Honor Society welcomed 18 new members at its annual induction ceremony on November 21. During the ceremony, current members went into the audience and brought new members up on stage. NHS officers then described the qualities required for membership - character, scholarship, leadership, service and citizenship - and lit a candle symbolizing each of the qualities.

Superintendent Robert D'Angelo and Principal Terry McCarthy, who was the guest speaker for the event, welcomed the new members with certificates and inductees' parents presented them with NHS pins. McCarthy called the inductees "fine, accomplished young people who have done more than just succeed in the classroom."

To be eligible, students must have an academic average of at least 90 percent; they must apply for the honor and be selected by a faculty council based on the five qualities of membership.

The new members of the Holley Chapter are: Kyleigh Carpenter, Jacob Colby, Amber Collins, Garrett DeFilipps, Kallie Finnefrock, Shannon Gaylord, Nichole Henick, Jennifer Hettel, Kelsey Hughson, Derek Kohmann, Joshua Mitchell, Elizabeth Shannon Reid, Heather Rowley, Stacy Tipton, Ashley Weber, Jessica Widmer, Tera Wilson and Nicole Wing.

The current members of the Holley Chapter are: President Honna Lusk; Vice President Kylie Monacelli; Secretary Lindsay Fishbaugh; Treasurer Jillian Ralph; Lisa Barrett, Ashli Couch, Joel Johnson, Shayna McAfee, Robert Taylor and Erin Weber. Russ Albright is the NHS faculty advisor.
